This list is sure to grow, and we look forward to sharing a year's worth of favorites next New Year's. But as 2023 begins, here are the five dishes we are most excited to eat.

If your fingers are fast enough, you will beat out other pizza fans to secure a pickup date and time, then wait not-so-patiently for your day to come.

Its layers of carne enchilada (spicy pork), mashed beans, avocado, cheese, jalapeno, lettuce, tomato, onion and mayonnaise drew us in, and a screenshot of the photo has lived on our desktop since.

They make their sweets — crumb cake, pound cake, chocolate babka, cookies, brownies, banana bread, more than 20 kinds of scones — to order and also sell them at markets at Holmdel's Bell Works.

Everything they serve looks delicious: cemitas, sopes, empanadas, birria, enchiladas and more.

It was the dozens of sandwiches that first drew us to this Italian deli, which recently celebrated one year in business in Toms River.

Crispy chicken cutlets are excellent on their own, but the toppings (also available on eggplant) puts these over the top.
