How To Cook White Rice – Easily And Perfectly

Everyone ought to be able to make perfect rice without a rice cooker! I'm going to share three different ways I cook rice today: Rice cooked on the stove in a pot for 13 minutes yields the best results;

How To Cook Rice

The simplest and most hands-off method for cooking rice in large batches is in the oven (35 minutes); Microwave (12 minutes) - the quickest, hands-free method

Which Rice To Use For This Recipe

To cook rice on the stove or in the oven, you will need 1.5 cups of water for every cup of rice. When cooking rice in the microwave, the water must be increased to 2 cups. Reduce the water by 2 tablespoons per cup of rice if you rinse the rice

Rice To Water Ratio

Without a lid, bring 1 cup of unwashed rice and 1.5 cups of water to a boil in a saucepan over medium-high heat; Reduce heat to low, secure lid, and wait for 13 minutes;

Remove saucepan from heat while the lid is still on, and let it stand for 10 minutes.  Using a rice paddle, rubber spatula, or fork, fluff the rice to perfection. For a good close-up, watch the recipe video!

Of the three methods I'm sharing today, this is the one I usually use to cook rice because it produces the best results and comes the closest to using a rice cooker. The rice cooks evenly throughout, the grains are tender but not mushy, and the grain's surface is not gooey or mushy.

A good emergency technique! When I'm looking for rice props for pictures, I use this! In a round, microwave-safe container that is three to four times taller than the water level (the water bubbles up quite a bit), put one cup of rice and two cups of boiling water.

12 minutes on high, uncovered in the microwave;  the microwave should be turned off, covered, and left to cool;  Toss and delight!

How To Cook Rice In The Microwave

The most common error when cooking rice is using too much water; most recipes call for 2 cups of water to 1 cup of rice when cooking on a stovetop. This practically guarantees overly soft, gummy rice.

The Biggest Mistake You’ve Been Making All Your Life

NO SCREAMING OR PEEKING! While the rice is cooking, do not open the lid or stir the rice. That will definitely make it worse! Rice that is undercooked or cooked unevenly is the result of lifting the lid. Stirring activates starch, resulting in gluey rice (the worst!).

Tips

For rice cooked on the stove, use 1 cup of rice and 1.5 cups of water. For the oven and microwave, increase to 2 cups of water for every 1 cup of rice. How long will rice keep in the refrigerator? 4 days in a container with tight seals. Some claim that it will last six days, but I would rather be safe than sorry.

Useful To Know

Rice freezes very well when being frozen. In the freezer, it will last for three to four months.
