Here is a meatless Sloppy Joe. It can be made as I have indicated in the recipe, with a can of Manwich sauce or you can do it all from scratch with more tomato sauce, ketchup, mustard, brown sugar and pepper. I happened to have the Manwich, so that is the route I went.
I served them over rice and gluten free for me, but my kiddos ate them as a filling in hamburger buns. Lentils are a really meaty legume, so it was almost like using ground beef, but a whole heck of a lot cheaper.

2. Ingredients for Sloppy Lentils
- 2 cups dried lentils
- 1 large onion, chopped fine
- 1 carrot, chopped fine
- 1 green pepper, chopped fine
- 4 cups water
- 1 15 oz can tomato sauce
- 1 can Manwich Original sloppy Joe sauce
- 1 Tbsp parsley flakes
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 tsp basil
- 1 Tbsp soy sauce
3. Directions:
- Combine all ingredients in a slow cooker.
- Cook 8 hours on low.
- Serve on a bun.
- This freezes well.

- Make sure to use gluten free soy sauce if you are wanting it to be GF.
