Recipe For Goulash (In-Law’s Version)

There are so many versions of goulash. I grew up with one (see this) and the Good Guy grew up with another. Both are tasty. Both are frugal. Neither is authentic in any way. Because we moved within an hour of my in-laws right after we married and because I didn’t know we’d ever leave that area, I learned to make as many of my Mother In Law’s dishes as I could. No one wants to put up with “I like my mom’s (fill in the blank with a food dish, please) better than yours.” Luckily, my versions of the MIL’s versions were close enough for the Good Guy. Even luckier, he never actually complained about my food.
