5 Creative and Simple Ways to Use Hummus in Your Meals

I’m a huge hummus fan, and I think it is the perfect condiment! If you also like hummus, you might want to know some wonderful ways to use hummus in your meals.

I’ve been trying out different hummus recipes lately. Read on and find out a few creative and simple ways to use hummus in your meals!

1. Make a salad dressing

I love making a healthy salad dressing that doesn’t contain lots of preservatives, sugar or oils. I use 2 tbsp. of hummus, blend it with 1 tbsp. of apple cider vinegar, add cracked black pepper and a squeeze of lemon. It makes a tasty salad dressing recipe that you can use on veggies or a meat marinade.

2. Eat hummus for breakfast

Another great way to use hummus is at breakfast. Really, ladies, don’t restrict this amazing dip to just raw veggies and pita wedges; serve it up in this protein-rich meal (full of healthy minerals, vitamins, and antioxidants) that takes three minutes to make.

You will need 1 egg, 2 egg whites, 1/4 cup of shredded carrots, 1/2 cup of chopped broccoli and 2 tablespoons of roasted red pepper hummus.

Put egg whites, egg, carrots, and broccoli in a microwave-safe bowl. Cook for about 2 minutes, then stir and cook for a few more seconds. Mix in hummus and enjoy it!

3. Make chicken salad

I always use hummus in my chicken salad instead of using mayo. I also like using hummus in my tuna salad. My favorite kind to use is spinach artichoke hummus. Try this delicious recipe as an excellent example!

You will need 1 cooked chicken breast, 1 tablespoon of dried cranberries, 2 tablespoons of slivered almonds (you can also take chopped walnuts instead), 1/2 apple, chopped, 1 stalk celery, chopped, 2 tablespoons of low-fat Greek yogurt, 1 tablespoon of chopped onions, 2 tablespoons of hummus, 1 squeeze lemon juice, pepper and salt to taste, lettuce, and some additional vegetables if you want.

Mix all the ingredients, except lettuce and additional vegetables, together. Serve your mixture as a salad atop lettuce with your veggies or in a lettuce leaf wrap-style.

4. Make a pasta sauce

Making a pasta sauce instead of my Alfredo sauce is one of my favorite ways to use hummus! Many people like Alfredo sauce because of that creamy factor, but I have good news for you! Hummus has that great silky texture that adds creaminess to the meals.

Follow this easy pasta recipe to make a tasty pasta sauce in seconds!

You will need 8 oz. brown rice spaghetti, 2 medium tomatoes, chopped, 1 teaspoonful of extra virgin olive oil, 2/3 cup of roasted red pepper hummus, 1-6 oz. can boneless, skinless wild Alaskan salmon, pepper and salt to taste.

Pour 6 cups of clear water into a large pot and boil. Cook pasta until al dente, about 12 minutes. Drain. Now, in the same large pot, sauté tomatoes with extra virgin olive oil for about 5 minutes and remove the pot from heat. Add your cooked pasta, hummus and salmon and stir.

5. Pita pizza

Pita pizza is so great, especially for children. You will need 1/4 green zucchini, cut lengthwise, 1/4 yellow squash, cut lengthwise, 4 asparagus tips, 1/2 red bell pepper, 1 6-inch whole-wheat pita and 2 tablespoons of Mediterranean hummus.

Grill vegetables or roast in your oven (put them on a foil-lined pan and spray the top with olive-oil cooking spray) until slightly brown, for about 30 minutes. Cover pita with hummus, cut your vegetables into desired size pieces and top your pizza with them.
