My brother in Houston made a new year’s resolution to only eat foods with ingredients that he can pronounce. He called me a few weeks ago, knowing that I was doing this series and asked if I could come up with a homemade version of his favorite crackers, Wheat Thins. I found a recipe that sounded really tasty. I adjusted the amount of sugar and tried a rosemary/garlic variation. They tasted almost identical to the store bought crackers. The cost difference was huge. It cost me less than a dollar to make these.

2. Ingredients for Homemade Wheat Thins
- 1½ cups all purpose flour
- ⅓ cup sugar
- 2 Tbsp butter, softened
- In a food processor, mix the dry ingredients.
- Add the butter and mix until crumbly.
- Add the milk and mix into a cohesive ball.
- Divide the dough into 2 portions.
- Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Roll out one dough ball on each pan to ⅛ to 1/16 inch thin.
- Cut into squares and sprinkle with salt.
- Bake 325 degrees for 20 minutes or until nicely browned.
- If desired, add ¼ tsp garlic powder and 1 tsp rosemary to the dry ingredients for a tasty variation.
